In the Indian context, women's safety has evolved from a social concern to a constitutional imperative, backed by robust legal frameworks and government initiatives. The concept gained unprecedented national attention following the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, which catalyzed significant legislative and policy reforms.

Women's safety challenges in India are multidimensional, spanning domestic violence, workplace harassment, cyber crimes, trafficking, and violence in public spaces. The issue intersects with broader themes of gender equality, social justice, and human development.

Constitutional provisions under Articles 14, 15, and 21 form the bedrock of women's safety rights, while specific legislation like the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013 provide targeted protection mechanisms.
