Regional Trade Agreements — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
Focus on factual accuracy regarding specific agreements, their members, and signing years. Memorize the four types of RTAs with clear examples - ASEAN FTA (Free Trade Area), MERCOSUR (Customs Union), European Single Market (Common Market), Eurozone (Economic Union).
Pay special attention to India's agreements: dates, partner countries, and key features. Understand RCEP withdrawal reasons thoroughly as this appears frequently. Practice elimination techniques by identifying obviously wrong options first.
Common traps include confusing FTA with customs union, mixing up agreement types, and incorrect partner country lists. Create a timeline of India's major RTAs from 2000 onwards. Remember constitutional provisions - Article 73 (executive power) and Article 253 (implementing legislation).
Stay updated on current developments like India-UAE CEPA performance, IPEF progress, and any new negotiations. Use acronyms carefully - distinguish between RCEP, ASEAN, CECA, CEPA, and ECTA.
