42nd Amendment	1976	Added Article 48A to the Directive Principles of State Policy, mandating the state to protect and improve the environment and safeguard forests and wildlife. Also added Article 51A(g) making environmental protection a fundamental duty of citizens.	Provided constitutional foundation for environmental legislation and climate action, including policies supporting net zero commitments. Established environmental protection as both state obligation and citizen duty.
