To excel in NEET questions on beats, a systematic approach is key. Firstly, thoroughly understand the definition and the underlying principle of superposition. Memorize the core formula: $f_{beat} = |f_1 - f_2|$.

For numerical problems, always identify the given frequencies and clearly state what needs to be found. If an unknown frequency is involved, remember that $f_2 = f_1 pm f_{beat}$, leading to two possible values.

The crucial step then is to use additional information (like 'loading with wax' or 'filing') to eliminate one of these possibilities. Remember: loading a tuning fork with wax *decreases* its frequency, while filing it *increases* its frequency.

This knowledge is frequently tested. For conceptual questions, focus on the conditions for beats (small frequency difference, comparable amplitudes, same direction of propagation) and the distinction between beat frequency (rate of loudness change) and average frequency (perceived pitch).

Pay close attention to units (Hz) and ensure calculations are precise. Practice problems involving vibrating strings and organ pipes, where you first calculate the source frequencies and then apply the beat formula.
