Prelims Strategy

For Prelims preparation, focus on memorizing specific facts: General Service Enlistment Act 1856, Enfield P-53 rifle cartridge controversy, key dates (Vellore 1806, Barrackpore incidents 1824/1852, Meerut May 10, 1857), and military stations (Meerut, Barrackpore, Ambala, Lucknow).

Create a timeline of military incidents from 1806-1857. Memorize the three armies - Bengal (233,000 sepoys), Madras, Bombay - and their different characteristics. Practice elimination techniques: eliminate options that are too extreme (complete replacement of Indians) or anachronistic (policies not implemented before 1857).

Focus on cause-effect relationships and avoid confusion between immediate triggers (cartridge) and underlying causes (hierarchy breakdown). Use mnemonics like ARGED for quick recall. Pay attention to specific military terminology: sepoy, subedar, jamadar, bhatta, kala pani, firangi paani.

Practice questions that test understanding of why certain policies were problematic rather than just what the policies were.
