Perspective Taking — Mains Strategy
Mains Strategy
For Mains, develop a systematic approach to multi-stakeholder analysis. Always identify at least 3-4 different perspectives in case studies. Structure answers with clear perspective analysis sections before proposing solutions.
Use the framework: Understand → Analyze → Synthesize → Propose. Demonstrate genuine understanding by explaining why each stakeholder holds their position, not just what their position is. Show how perspective taking leads to better solutions by identifying common ground and addressing underlying concerns.
Practice writing from different stakeholder viewpoints to develop fluency. Include recent examples from current affairs to show contemporary relevance. Use transitional phrases like 'From X's perspective...
' and 'Understanding Y's concerns...' to clearly demonstrate perspective taking. Always conclude with how perspective taking improves governance outcomes.
