Employment and Human Development — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, the strategy for Employment and Human Development (ECO-10) must be data-driven and concept-clear. First, master the definitions and distinctions of various types of unemployment (cyclical, structural, frictional, seasonal, disguised) and underemployment.
Understand the precise definitions of Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and Unemployment Rate (UR), including how they are calculated and their significance. Second, focus on official data sources – primarily the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) by NSSO, MoSPI.
Memorize the latest key figures for LFPR (overall, male, female), WPR, and UR, along with their trends (e.g., recent increase in FLFPR). Be aware of the reference periods (Usual Status, CWS, CDS). Third, for Human Development Indicators, thoroughly understand the components and calculation methodology of HDI, GII, and MPI.
Know India's latest ranking and value for HDI, and key trends in GII and MPI. Fourth, for Government Schemes, prepare a concise summary for each major scheme (MGNREGA, PMKVY, PMEGP, DDU-GKY) covering its launch year, nodal ministry, primary objective, target beneficiaries, and key features.
Pay attention to recent amendments or new phases (e.g., PMKVY 3.0). Fifth, be familiar with Constitutional Provisions (Articles 39, 41, 43, 43A) and their direct relevance to employment and labor welfare.
Finally, keep an eye on current affairs related to labor codes, gig economy, post-COVID employment recovery, and any new government initiatives. Practice MCQs that test conceptual understanding, data recall, and scheme details.
The 'thirty_second_revision' and 'two_minute_revision' sections will be particularly useful here.
