Regional Cuisines — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, focus on factual recall and conceptual clarity regarding regional cuisines. Key areas include: 1. Staple ingredients and cooking methods associated with major regions (North, South, East, West, Northeast).
2. Specific famous dishes and their originating regions (e.g., Rogan Josh - Kashmir, Dhokla - Gujarat, Appam - Kerala). 3. Historical influences (Mughal, Portuguese, etc.) and their impact on specific cuisines.
4. Geographical factors (climate, terrain, crops) and their direct correlation with food habits. 5. Government schemes and initiatives related to food, such as GI tags, ODOP, FSSAI, and their objectives.
6. Basic constitutional provisions (Articles 29, 51A) related to cultural preservation. Practice MCQs that test your ability to identify correct pairings, characteristics, and the objectives of related policies.
Pay attention to common misconceptions or 'trap' options, especially those that misattribute origins or characteristics. Create flashcards for quick revision of dishes, regions, and key ingredients.
