Sanskrit — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, focus on memorizing key facts: Sanskrit's inclusion in Eighth Schedule (not specifically mandated by Article 351), Classical Language status (2005), Panini's Ashtadhyayi (4000 sutras, 5th century BCE), major texts chronology (Vedas→Upanishads→Epics→Classical literature), and constitutional provisions.
Master elimination techniques by understanding common traps: confusing Article 351's Hindi promotion with Sanskrit mandate, mixing up Panini with other grammarians, and incorrectly attributing modern university establishment to ancient periods.
Practice identifying Sanskrit's influence patterns - strongest in technical/religious vocabulary, weaker in basic conversational terms. Remember NEP 2020's approach - emphasis on traditional knowledge access, not mandatory teaching.
Create mental maps linking Sanskrit with archaeology (Harappan debates), Buddhism (Pali connections), and regional languages (vocabulary influence). Focus on recent developments: digital projects, Central Sanskrit University initiatives, and policy changes.
Use process of elimination by identifying extreme options (making Sanskrit mandatory, replacing English) as typically incorrect.
