Prelims Strategy

To excel in NEET questions on cattle farming, a multi-pronged strategy is essential. Firstly, memorize key breeds: create flashcards or mnemonics to remember prominent indigenous dairy breeds (Sahiwal, Gir, Red Sindhi), exotic dairy breeds (Holstein-Friesian, Jersey, Brown Swiss), and important draught breeds.

Focus on their distinguishing features and primary utility. Secondly, understand breeding techniques conceptually: grasp the 'why' and 'how' of Artificial Insemination (AI), Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer (MOET), and cross-breeding.

Know their advantages and specific applications. For example, AI for superior male genetics, MOET for superior female genetics, and cross-breeding for hybrid vigor. Thirdly, master disease knowledge: learn the names of common bacterial (Mastitis, Anthrax, Black Quarter), viral (FMD), and parasitic diseases.

Understand their primary symptoms, modes of transmission, and most importantly, their prevention and control measures, especially vaccination. Fourthly, nutrition basics: differentiate clearly between roughages (fiber-rich, for rumen health) and concentrates (energy/protein-rich, for high production).

Finally, practice MCQs rigorously: pay close attention to keywords like 'indigenous', 'exotic', 'bacterial', 'viral', 'rapid multiplication', etc., as these often dictate the correct answer. For numerical problems (though less common here), ensure unit consistency.

Always eliminate obviously incorrect options first to increase your chances.
